RECOUNT / SUPPORT
Support
Getting started with Recount.
Your first tracker
Recount runs on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS 15 or later and is available on the App Store. Start with something you wish you remembered: watering a plant, practicing an instrument, or using something you bought.
- Create a tracker, name it, and choose a tracker type. Pick a searchable icon and a preset or custom color.
- Put it in a category and favorite it for easy access on Today.
- Use its action button to log a moment, enter a reading, or start a timer. The brief Undo option reverses your last quick log.
- Hold a Today tile to arrange it. Drag to move it, or drag its corner resize handle to choose among six sizes. Tap a smaller tile to expand it.
Open a tracker’s history to edit or delete an entry. Archive a tracker to keep its history without keeping it in your active list; restore archived trackers from Settings.
Choose how you capture it
Count and event
Count repeated things with +1, or record when something happens. Both make everyday logging a single action.
Timer
Start and stop a session. Timers keep their start time when you leave the app or lock your screen. You can also enter a past session in minutes.
Measurement
Record a value in your chosen unit. Choose whether daily charts show the average reading or the total.
Purchase and monthly subscription
A purchase’s cost per use is its price divided by logged uses. An optional alternative cost gives a break-even estimate; this does not establish that every use replaced the alternative. With no uses logged, there is no cost-per-use figure yet.
A subscription tracker divides its monthly price by uses in the current calendar month. It tracks what you enter; it does not read your streaming history or manage your subscriptions.
A Shortcut for your thing
- Create a tracker in Recount, then open Apple’s Shortcuts app and search for Recount.
- Add Log or time a tracker and choose your tracker. For a count, event, purchase, or subscription, the action logs a use or moment. For a timer, it starts an idle timer or stops and saves a running one.
- Save and run your Shortcut. Preselecting a tracker avoids a selection prompt each time.
- On an iPhone with an Action button, choose your saved Shortcut in Settings → Action Button → Shortcut.
The quick action offers trackers with a one-tap action. Measurements need a reading and are not offered by this action. Archived trackers and trackers marked private (“keep inside the app”) are excluded.
Interactive widgets provide quick logging. On supported devices, timer Live Activities let you stop and save from the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. You can also use a tracker’s Pin to Lock Screen action for a temporary counter showing today’s total.
A nudge, only when you need it
Add one-time or recurring reminders to a tracker, with multiple schedules and times. Recurring options include intervals in days, weeks, or months, and a chosen weekday within a month.
Each reminder has a daily target, defaulting to one. Once you reach it, the remaining reminders for that day stay quiet. Measurements count readings; timers count sessions, including a session in progress. A notification’s +1 action can log without opening the app.
Allow notifications for Recount in system settings. Private trackers do not send reminders. Open Recount periodically to replenish scheduled notifications, especially if you have many schedules.
Make sense of your history
Insights includes a This week highlight strip, suggested insights, and customizable cards. Each card can compare up to six trackers, with ranges from a week to a year. Edit, duplicate, or reorder cards to keep what matters close.
Twelve views cover totals, trends, at a glance, cost per use, a month calendar, a year heatmap, streaks, time of day, weekdays, a daily timeline, time between moments, and whether two trackers go together.
Time-of-day suggestions are calculated on your device from your logging history. They never log on your behalf. Turn them off globally or adjust a tracker’s sensitivity; private and favorited trackers stay out of suggestions.
Free and Recount Pro
The free version includes 5 active trackers, 3 Insight cards, recurring reminders on 2 trackers, and 1 category you share. Archived trackers and trackers in categories shared with you do not count toward your tracker limit. One-time reminders and joining someone else’s category are free.
Logging, history, timers, widgets, Live Activities, Shortcuts, iCloud sync, and CSV export are included. Monthly, yearly, or lifetime Pro removes the limits, with one purchase covering iPhone, iPad, and Mac on the same Apple Account.
If Pro ends, you keep your existing data and can still log. Limits apply when adding more. Use Restore Purchases if an existing purchase is not recognized, and manage recurring Pro subscriptions through your Apple Account’s subscription settings.
Troubleshooting
A tracker is missing from Shortcuts or a widget.
Check that it is not archived or marked private. Measurements are not available in the one-tap Shortcut, and the small quick-log widget does not offer timers or measurements.
A timer kept running.
Leaving the app does not stop a timer. Stop and save from Recount, its Live Activity, or your timer Shortcut. Dismissing a Live Activity does not end the underlying timer.
My other device has not updated.
Check your connection and that both devices use the same Apple Account with iCloud available for Recount. Open Recount on both and check Settings for sync errors. Shared categories also require an accepted invitation. If an error persists, include its wording when contacting support.
A reminder did not arrive.
Check notification permissions, Focus settings, the schedule, and whether you already reached its daily target. Private or archived trackers do not remind you. Reopen Recount to refresh the notification queue; Settings warns if many reminders fill it.
Where is my export?
Export from Settings and check the destination you chose in the system file picker. The CSV includes entries, dates, and notes; tracker settings are not included. Treat an exported file as a copy of your personal history.
