RECOUNT / PRIVACY

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Your moments belong to you.

Overview

This policy describes Recount, the personal tracking app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac developed by RC Studios, and these product and support pages.

Recount does not require an account and does not send your trackers or logged moments to RC Studios. The app includes no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.

Your trackers and moments

Recount stores your trackers, categories, logged moments, timestamps, notes, measurements, timer sessions, and the purchase or subscription costs you enter. It also stores preferences, reminders, and Insight card settings. Data is stored locally, with iCloud used for sync and shared categories when available. RC Studios does not operate a server that receives your tracker history.

On-device insights and suggestions

Charts, highlights, and time-of-day suggestions are calculated on your device from your logged history. Recount does not send this analysis to RC Studios or an analytics service. You can disable suggestions globally or adjust a tracker’s sensitivity. Private and favorited trackers are excluded from time-of-day suggestions.

iCloud sync

Recount uses Apple’s CloudKit service to sync personal data through your Apple Account’s private iCloud database when iCloud is available. RC Studios cannot read that private database. Without available iCloud sync, changes remain in local storage. Apple processes iCloud data under its own privacy terms.

Categories you share

Sharing a category makes its trackers, logged moments, notes, and timer sessions available to the iCloud users participating in that share. Participants can log and edit. Trackers added or moved into a shared category are shared with their history. Reminders and Insight cards stay personal.

The owner can stop sharing and participants can leave. On supported system versions, participants can also invite others. Sharing access cannot retract information another participant has already copied or exported. A tracker’s “keep inside the app” setting controls app surfaces; it is not a substitute for keeping that tracker out of a shared category.

Reminders, Shortcuts, widgets, and Live Activities

Reminders use local system notifications. Their content, widget content, and Live Activities may display tracker information outside the app, including on your Lock Screen, according to your system settings. Shortcuts log moments or start and stop timers for the tracker you choose.

Trackers marked private (“keep inside the app”) are excluded from reminders, suggestions, widgets, Shortcuts, and Live Activities. Recount does not read other apps’ activity, streaming history, messages, or system-wide context to create entries.

Recount Pro purchases

Apple handles payments for monthly, yearly, and lifetime Pro. Recount uses Apple’s StoreKit to check verified purchases and subscription status, and remembers your Pro access locally. RC Studios does not receive your payment card details and does not run a purchase-verification server.

Deletion and retained copies

Deleting a moment or tracker removes it from the app’s store; when sync is active, deletions propagate through iCloud. Archiving keeps its history. Deleting the app removes local app data, but does not by itself delete iCloud data, exported files, or other participants’ copies. Device backups may retain app data according to your Apple backup settings.

Exported files

CSV export writes your entries, dates, and notes to a destination you choose. Tracker settings are not included. RC Studios does not receive a copy. Files saved to iCloud Drive or another provider are handled by that service, and exported copies remain until you delete them.

Contact form

The contact form is anonymous. It asks for no name and no email address, and RC Studios does not attach your IP address to what you send. Your submission is filed as an entry on a private issue tracker hosted by GitHub, containing only the text you typed, the optional version numbers, and the time it was received, and is used solely to fix and improve Recount. If you choose to put contact details in the message so that we can reply, that information is stored with the submission and used only to answer you. To limit abuse, the website briefly uses your IP address to rate-limit submissions; it is not stored with the submission.

This website

These pages do not use analytics scripts, advertising trackers, or application cookies. Hosting providers process technical request information, such as IP addresses and browser information, to deliver and secure the website. When hosted on Cloudflare, its handling of this information is described in the Cloudflare privacy policy.

The website loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives the technical information required to deliver those files. See the Google Fonts privacy information. These website requests are separate from the Recount app's on-device processing.

Apple services

Apple may process information through the App Store, device backups, or diagnostic services according to your device settings and Apple's privacy policy. Those services are separate from Recount's app functionality.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated if Recount's data practices change, including changes to sync, sharing, or purchases. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.
